Volunteer Clearance

Helping Keep Our Students Safe

Thank you for your willingness to volunteer at St. Finn Barr Catholic School! Parent and guardian volunteers play an important role in the life of our school, and we are grateful for the time and talents you share with our community.

To help provide a safe and secure environment for all students, the Archdiocese of San Francisco requires all volunteers and field trip chaperones to complete Safe Environment requirements before serving in roles that involve students.

Before You Volunteer

If you plan to volunteer on campus, coach, assist with school activities, or chaperone field trips, please complete the following requirements:

  • Create a VIRTUS account through the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
  • Complete the Protecting God's Children 4.0 online training. This certification must be renewed every three years.
  • Complete Live Scan fingerprinting. This is a one-time requirement for most volunteers.
  • Drivers for field trips are required to be at least 25 years old, and must provide the School Office with a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and any additional required documentation at least one week before the field trip.

Please complete these requirements well in advance of your volunteer opportunity, as processing times may vary.

Step 1: Register with VIRTUS

All volunteers must first register through the VIRTUS online system.

  1. Visit the VIRTUS website.
  2. Select First-Time Registrant.
  3. Under "Select Archdiocese", choose the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
  4. Create a User ID and Password
  5. Complete your profile information (name, address, etc)
  6. Select St. Finn Barr Elementary (not Parish) as your primary location.
  7. Click continue and identify yourself as a "volunteer".
  8. Read and accept Archdiocese of San Francisco Policies and Procedures.
  9. Complete the Protecting God's Children 4.0 online training.
  10. The course will take approximately 45 minutes to complete, and it is available in English and Spanish.

Important: Please complete the VIRTUS online course before scheduling your Live Scan appointment, as an active VIRTUS account is required for your fingerprinting to be processed correctly.

Step 2: Complete Live Scan Fingerprinting

After completing the online course through VIRTUS, print the required Live Scan form and bring it to a participating Live Scan location to complete your fingerprinting.

St. Finn Barr Catholic School will reimburse 50% of the Live Scan fee for new school parents and field trip chaperones. To receive reimbursement, please submit your Live Scan receipt and completed paperwork to the School Office.

** If you anticipate chaperoning or volunteering at school events at all this year, it is a great idea to complete this program now. We thank you for contributing to a safe school environment! **
